Sindh lockdown: Flights are not being banned or postponed

All flights will operate as per schedule during the partial lockdown in Sindh from July 31 to August 8, the NCOC announced Saturday. Sindh revokes ban on pillion-riding during lockdown

The Sindh government has revoked the ban on pillion riding and removed the two people per car limit, according to spokesperson Murtaza Wahab. In a press conference Saturday, he said that the decision has been taken to ensure as many people as possible get vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus. “During the lockdown, people should only leave their houses to get immunised.” On Friday, the Sindh government imposed a partial lockdown in the province from July 31 to August 8 . Exams have been postponed and takeaways at restaurants have been banned. Wahab announced that the government has revoked some decisions. Pakistan vaccinates over 900,000 people in a day: NCOC

Pakistan vaccinated a record 940,830 people against the novel coronavirus on Friday, according to the National Command and Operation Centre. This is the highest number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered across the country in a day. According to Special Assistant to the PM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, the government’s target is to immunise one million people in a day. Pakistan aims to vaccinate 40% of its population in big cities by the end of August. This development comes amidst a surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, especially Sindh and Punjab. Experts have warned that Pakistan has entered the fourth wave of infections. In the last 24 hours, over 5,000 new cases were reported. Of these 2,000 were from Sindh. Karachi men sent to jail for selling Covid-19 vaccines illegally

A Karachi court has sent three men, arrested for illegally selling coronavirus vaccines, to jail on judicial remand. The suspects were presented before the court on Saturday after the completion of their physical remand. According to the police, Aman, Muhammad Sultan, and Muhammad Zeeshan confessed to the crime during questioning. “They have administered vaccines to more than 60 people so far,” the investigation officer said. A single dose of the Pfizer vaccine was sold for Rs15,000. The suspects told the police they were being provided the doses by a government employee who kept half of the share of earnings. The court has instructed the police to bring a progress report and challan of the case in the next hearing. It is illegal to sell both coronavirus vaccines in the country. Lahore sets up Covid-19 check posts to ensure SOP implementation

The district administration of Lahore has decided to establish check posts in 24 localities to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. People will be given free masks and hand sanitisers at the check posts. The police officers will advise people to get vaccinated against the deadly virus as well. Posts will be set up near bus stands, big markets, and main roads such as Liberty, Mall Road, G-1 Market, and Ichhra. Officers at the check posts will announce Covid-19 SOPs on loudspeakers. According to Lahore Commissioner Captain Muhammad Usman, the step has been taken to prevent a lockdown in the city. “To prevent any tough decisions it’s important people follow all the precautionary measures.” Earlier in the day, Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid revealed 70% of coronavirus cases in the province are of the Delta variant. In a press conference on Friday, Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid said that cases of the Epsilon variant have been reported in the province. “We have started conducting sample tests and sequencing to find out more about it.” The new strain was first reported in California in 2020 and was declared a Variant of Concern by the US Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) after it observed a spike in its cases. Studies reveal it is 20% more transmissible than other coronavirus variants. In June, about 1% of the total Covid-19 cases in the US were from the Epsilon variant, The Independent reported. In a press conference Friday, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah appealed to the people to help the government make the lockdown successful. “If you support us and follow SOPs, we will be able to resume activities from August 9.” Here are the restrictions that will be imposed now: Small-scale public transport will stay open to facilitate people going for Covid-19 vaccination. Delta variant spread: smart lockdown imposed in Karachi localities

The Karachi administration has imposed a micro smart lockdown in more localities on Thursday, as it continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic. The Delta variant has been spreading at an alarming rate and the positivity rate in the city has shot up to 30%. According to the notification, the lockdown has been imposed in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Liaquatabad and other union councils. Atleast 506 cases of Delta variant have been reported in these localities. People have been instructed to not leave their houses unless necessary. Health experts recommend 15-day lockdown in Karachi

Doctors and health experts have recommended a 15-day lockdown in Karachi after the coronavirus infection rate in the city rose to 30%. They said a complete curfew-like lockdown should be imposed in the city and all types of movement should be banned. According to Sindh spokesperson Murtaza Wahab, the recommendations were given to the coronavirus task force and the government will only decide after overviewing the situation. “We want to give the public another chance before taking any tough decision,” he said in a press conference Wednesday. The Sindh government has imposed a micro smart lockdown in multiple areas of Karachi’s Keamari to curb the rising coronavirus infections. People have been instructed not to leave their houses unless absolutely necessary. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has warned people to follow SOPs otherwise strict action will be taken.   Coronavirus cases have risen across Sindh. In the last 24 hours, the infection rate in Karachi shot up to 23 percent. The minister instructed the police IG and commissioner that a complete ban should be imposed in Karachi after 6pm and no one should leave the house unnecessarily. Pakistan received new doses of the Moderna and CanSino vaccines on Monday. Three million doses of the Moderna vaccine reached Islamabad Monday morning. They were donated by the World Health Organisation’s COVAX facility. “This consignment brings the number of Covid-19 vaccine doses delivered by COVAX to Pakistan to eight million,” UNICEF Pakistan tweeted.
